Harshit Rana reacts to call-up for Border-Gavaskar series

Indian pacer Harshit Rana, who recently was given a maiden call-up to the Indian team for the upcoming 5-match Test series against Australia said that being selected for the tour is a big deal for him. Rana is among the fresh faces who have been chosen for the series alongside all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy and batter Abhimanyu Easwaran.

Speaking after his 5-wicket haul for Delhi against Assam in the Ranji Trophy, Rana said that he had no clue that he will be a part of the side for such an important tour.

“Only when the team was announced did I know I was going to Australia. But I had indications that I might be selected for the Australia tour because they had me with the team to prepare. Being selected for Australia tour is a big deal for me. The kind of competitive attitude I like to play cricket with on the field is very similar to Australia’s,” Rana said as quoted by ESPCricinfo.

The pacer also said that it was his father’s dream to have him play a Test at Lord’s against England, however he likes Australia more.

“It was my father’s dream that I play a Test against England sometime at Lord’s, but I personally like Australia more,” said Rana.

Rana came into the spotlight during the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he took 19 wickets for the Kolkata Knight Riders and finished among the top 5 highest wicket-takers in the tournament. Though he is yet to make his international debut, he has proved to be highly impressive at the domestic circuit.
