Haryana: About 4 thousand new ration depots will open in Haryana, women will get special priority.

Haryana News: Haryana Government has prepared to take a big step towards making the Public Distribution System (PDS) more strong and accessible. Work has started on the plan to open about 4 thousand new ration depots across the state. This proposal of the Food Supply Department has received preliminary approval from Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.

Under the scheme, a new ration depot will be opened in every district and village with 500 ration cards, so that consumers can easily get ration in their nearest area. This will not only reduce crowding, but will also make the distribution system more smooth.

Women will get 33 percent reservation

Special attention has also been given to women empowerment in this scheme. Preparations are on to reserve about 33 percent of the total new depots, i.e. about 1320 ration depots for women. This will provide self-employment opportunities to women and their economic participation will also increase.

Formalities will be completed by January

However, some formal processes are yet to be completed before the scheme can be implemented. These include eligibility rules, application conditions, scrutiny process and technical preparations. According to departmental sources, some changes can also be made during these processes as per requirement. The government aims to complete all the formalities within the month of January.

The application process will start after approval from the cabinet.

According to Food Supply Department Superintendent Ashwani Kumar, the proposal to open new ration depots has received the approval of the Chief Minister. After all the processes are completed, this proposal will be placed in the cabinet meeting for final approval. After getting the green signal from the cabinet, the application process for the new ration depot will be started by the end of January. Applications will be taken through Antyodaya Saral portal.
