Haryana New Airport: Preparations for another airport in Haryana have started. Greenfield airport will be developed on about 600 acres of land in Karnal. This will be a completely new (greenfield) project and all formal approvals are expected to be received within the 2026-27 financial year. This project is likely to boost economic, industrial and business activities in the area and open new opportunities for investment, employment and better connectivity.

Karnal Lok Sabha constituency is represented by former Chief Minister and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. He became the Chief Minister of Haryana for the first time by winning the assembly elections from Karnal in 2014. This airport project is being considered an important development step for their area.

There is already an aviation club in Karnal

At present a Civil Aviation Club operates in Karnal, which is one of the oldest clubs in the region. Earlier it was spread over about 107 acres, which has been increased to about 171 acres. There is a plan to increase the runway here from 3,000 feet to 5,000 feet, which will make landing of small and medium sized aircraft possible. Civil aviation facilities will be further strengthened with the construction of a new greenfield airport.

Important meeting held in Delhi

In November, Manohar Lal Khattar held a meeting with Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu in New Delhi to discuss the project. Chief Minister Nayab Saini also mentioned Karnal Airport in the recently presented budget.

BJP MLA from Karnal Jagmohan Anand thanked the Chief Minister for this announcement and called it a visionary step for the overall development of the region.

136 km long Delhi-Karnal RRTS corridor

Provisions have also been made in the budget to strengthen road, energy and public transport infrastructure. To improve regional connectivity, the 136 km long Delhi-Karnal Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) corridor has been approved at an estimated cost of Rs 33,051 crore. Apart from this, the cost of 93 km long Delhi-Bawal corridor is said to be Rs 32,327 crore.

Both these corridors are part of the Namo Bharat RRTS project, which aims to provide fast, safe and reliable transportation between major cities and districts.
