Has Iran agreed to the final deal?
US President Donald Trump said that a deal to end the war with Iran is almost done and it is expected to be signed in Europe this weekend. Trump spoke in the Oval Office of the White House on Thursday afternoon. Hours earlier, he had halted military strikes on Iran and threatened to take over its oil industry.
Trump said he hopes Vice President J.D. Vance will attend the signing ceremony, which could take place in Europe this weekend. He said that we have now made a wonderful agreement regarding war with Iran. It looks like the document is almost finalized. This work should be done very soon. The US President said that Iran has agreed not to possess or buy nuclear weapons. Trump said the deal would ensure that Iran would never be able to obtain nuclear weapons. He described this as the main objective of the administration’s pressure campaign against Tehran.
The President also said that the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened after the signing of the agreement. This could reduce pressure on the global energy market after weeks of military tension in the region and disruptions in maritime activity. Responding to a question on how he agreed to the Iran deal, Trump said because he had to suffer a lot. He is very sad.
Khamenei approved the deal
Trump also claimed that the proposed deal had the support of Iran’s top leadership. When asked whether Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei had agreed to a deal, Trump said, “I think the answer is yes.” The US president said he had spoken to his colleagues in the Gulf countries and leaders in the region, including Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, and claimed that the entire Middle East is very happy.
Settlement closer than ever
Trump said that the current situation is different from the previous rounds of talks because Iran is now more ready to compromise. When asked why he believed a deal was closer than ever, Trump responded because he had been defeated so badly. He has also been defeated like many people. And they want to compromise more than me. He also said that Iran’s level of enthusiasm for the deal has changed significantly in recent weeks.
