Has the Iran-US agreement broken? Trump said- America attacked 80 targets
Desk. The interim agreement made to stop the war between Iran and America now appears to be on the verge of breaking. US President Donald Trump has clearly said that for him this agreement is now over and talks with Tehran are a waste of time. Trump is currently attending the NATO summit in Turkey. Military action has again intensified between the two countries. In such a situation, this has increased the tension in the entire West Asia and the fear of new conflict has deepened.
America launched massive military attacks in the southern part of Iran. The targets of these attacks were 80 military bases in Bandar Abbas, Serik and Qeshm Islands. Washington says that this action was taken in response to Iran’s attacks on merchant ships near the Strait of Hormuz. Along with this, America also withdrew the exemption related to the sale of Iranian oil. Iran then launched retaliatory attacks in the direction of Bahrain and Kuwait, raising serious questions about the previously implemented ceasefire and negotiation process.
Trump said that according to him the deal with Iran is now over. He said that he no longer wants to hold any talks with Tehran because nothing will be achieved from it. Although he also said that American officials can continue talks if they want, but he does not think that any result will come from it. Trump made very harsh remarks on Iran’s leadership, alleging that if it had nuclear weapons, it would not shy away from using them. He said that now his patience on this issue has ended.
Why did America carry out such major attacks?
- According to US officials, the recent airstrikes were four to five times larger and more powerful than previous ones.
- America says this action was taken in response to attacks on merchant ships near the Strait of Hormuz.
- Washington claims that Iran was behind the attacks on these ships.
- For this reason, this time America took extensive military action by targeting the military bases of Bandar Abbas, Serik and Qeshm Islands.
- The attack occurred at a time when the funeral of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was going on.
- It was believed that tension would remain low during the funeral, but the situation worsened again due to American attacks.
- After these incidents, uncertainty over the final agreement and further negotiations between Iran and America has increased.
After the American attacks, Iran has clearly said that it is not going to bow down to any pressure. Speaker of the Iranian Parliament and a key leader involved in talks with the US, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf alleged that the US had violated several terms of the interim agreement. He said that interfering in Iran’s maritime management, reimposing the oil embargo and attacking southern Iran are against the spirit of the agreement. Iran’s army also described the American action as an open attack and said that it would be given a befitting reply. The army reiterated that the path for safe movement of merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz will be decided by Iran and no outside interference will be accepted.
