Hassan Ali’s BBL fielding ‘embarrassment’ goes viral after Rizwan’s ‘retired out’ blunder
Pakistani cricket stars Hassan Ali and Mohammad Rizwan are facing a massive backlash after several moments from the Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL) went viral online.
Mohammed Rizwan was playing for the Melbourne Renegades when he was “retired out.” He scored only 26 off 23 balls. With two overs remaining and the Renegades needing to accelerate, captain Will Sutherland signalled for him to return to the pavilion so a power hitter could take over.
Rizwan is now the first overseas player to be retired out by his own captain and only the third in BBL history to experience this.
Twenty-four hours after this incident, Hassan Ali came under public scrutiny during a match between Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Stars.

Ali was chasing a cover drive but misjudged the boundary stop. As he approached the rope with a desperate dive, the ball slipped through his hands. The fans labelled the technical blunder an “embarrassment,” particularly as his team was defending a low target of 83.
The Strikers lost the match by 6 wickets and were subsequently knocked out of the BBL.
Both players, along with Babar Azam, are now at the center of a social media storm, with fans questioning the form of Pakistan’s top stars ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026.
