Having trouble conceiving despite having regular periods? Understand 4 hidden reasons from the point of view of Ayurveda

It is often believed that if periods are coming in a regular cycle of 28 or 30 days, then fertility is perfect. But according to Ayurveda, timely arrival of menstruation alone is not sufficient for conception. Just as having only seeds is not enough for a good plant, similarly Ayurveda emphasizes on the balance of ‘season, area, ambu and seed’. If your periods are regular and still pregnancy is not happening, then there could be these 4 Ayurvedic reasons behind it: 1. Quality of ‘Menstruation’: Blood not being pure. According to Ayurveda, periods are not just bleeding, but it is a sign of purification of ‘Menstruation’ (Ovum & Hormones). Problem: Many times periods come on time, but the blood coming out is not pure. If the color of the blood is very dark, thick or there are clots in it, it indicates the imbalance of ‘Vata’ or ‘Kapha’ dosha. Effect: Poor quality menstruation is not capable of forming a healthy embryo.2. Retardation of ‘Agni’: Metabolism and lack of nutrition. The place of ‘Agni’ (Digestive Fire) in Ayurveda is paramount. If your digestive power is weak, the nutritious food you eat is not converted into ‘Rasa Dhatu’. Problem: When Rasa Dhatu is not formed properly, ‘Shukra Dhatu’ and ‘Artava’ (reproductive tissue) do not get nutrition. Effect: There is lack of energy in the body and the wall of the uterus (Endometrium) is not strong enough to hold the pregnancy. 3. Imbalance of ‘Apan Vayu’: Obstruction in the elimination process. ‘Apan Vayu’ controls the functioning of the reproductive organs. Apna Vayu gets contaminated due to stress, wrong eating habits or staying awake late at night. Problem: The job of Apna Vayu is to release the egg at the right time and transport it to the uterus through the fallopian tube. Effect: If this Vayu is unbalanced, then the periods will come on time, but the process of ovulation may get disrupted or the fertilized egg will not be able to implant in the right place. 4. Mental ‘Tapas’ and Stress Factors: According to Ayurveda, mind and body are not separate. Excessive mental stress or anxiety increases ‘Vata’, causing the muscles of the uterus to contract. Effect: Due to stress, the body goes into ‘survival mode’, which reduces the energy available to the reproductive system. Ayurvedic Solution: How to increase fertility? Phala Ghrita: In Ayurveda, it is considered to give strength to the uterus. Consume it as per doctor’s advice. Shatavari and Ashwagandha: These herbs are panacea for creating hormonal balance and reducing stress. Uttar Basti: This is a special Panchakarma therapy which purifies and makes the uterus fertile from inside. Yoga and Pranayama: Kapalbhati and Anulom-Vilom help in balancing Apna Vayu.
