Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat Airport is expected to serve up to 155,000 passengers a day, a record number, during the upcoming Lunar New Year, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

The airport is expected to handle between 820 and 900 flights daily during the week before the Lunar New Year, which begins on Jan. 29. The busiest day is projected to be Jan. 23, with 901 flights, while the quietest is expected on Jan. 28, with 823 flights.

These projections are based on booking records reflecting travel demand before Tet.

The 2025 Tet holiday in Vietnam will last nine days, from Jan. 25 to Feb. 2, including two weekends.

Passenger numbers on peak days leading up to the holiday are expected to approach 150,000, an increase of 12.7% compared to the busiest day during last year’s Tet.

Flights from HCMC to northern and central provinces are nearly fully booked in the lead-up to the holiday.

During the first six days of the new lunar year, from Jan. 29 to Feb. 3, the airport will handle between 830 and 900 flights daily, with the peak day expected to reach 917 flights on Feb. 2, the last day of the Tet holiday. Passenger numbers on the busiest post-Tet day are forecast to exceed 155,000, a 4% increase compared to the previous holiday.

Airlines are scheduling more than 6,100 flights during the Tet period to accommodate about 900,000 passengers, marking an 8.7% year-over-year increase in flights and a 4% rise in passenger numbers. This significant surge underscores the growing demand for air travel during Vietnam’s most important holiday season.
