“He could have been a good option”: Irfan Pathan names an Indian player who was must in ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad

Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan highlighted the lack of the fast bowling options in Team India’s squad in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, saying that Mohammed Siraj could have been added to the team due to Jasprit Bumrah’s back injury.

“You need a backup seamer and Siraj could have been a good option. You can’t play four spinners in Dubai and with Bumrah and Shami not hundred percent fit, Siraj would have played an important role. I hope the players selected perform well and we should back them,” he added.

Bumrah is down with a back spasms and Shami is expected to lead the team’s pace attack in the ODI series against England.

Shami was not included in the Playing XI in the first T20I against the Jos Buttler-led unit in the Men in Blue’s win at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

“When you’ve played international cricket for a long time, you understand the limits of your body,” he mentioned about Shami.

“Shami doesn’t hide things and he believes in giving right information to the team management. Recovery takes times after playing for so many years. I know he and the management will make the right decision,” he concluded.
