A fine of Rs 12 lakh was imposed in that match due to slow over rate against Gujarat Titans. This time Punjab Kings had to pay double the fine for violating the same rule. It is believed that if the team continues to play at the same slow over rate, the amount of the fine will increase.

Why is the punishment so heavy?

This fine is high because this is the second violation of Punjab Kings in this season of IPL 2026. In the first match of the season, Gujarat Titans, the team was found guilty of slow over rate, then Iyer was fined Rs 12 lakh. According to the rules, on the second violation, the captain’s fine is doubled to Rs 24 lakh and the entire team also gets affected by it.

Is there a risk of being banned?

According to IPL rules, if the team under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer is found guilty of slow over rate for the third time in the season, then the captain will be fined Rs 30 lakh. Before 2025, if a team played with a slow over rate in two consecutive matches, the captain of the team was banned for one match, but this rule has been changed in 2025, so now instead of the ban, the amount of fine will increase.
