Survived on biscuits and chips, attended classes in a dressing gown! Under what mental pressure was 22 year old Saketh Srinivasiah? I stopped caring about everything
A 22 year old Indian student Saketh Srinivasaiah This is very sad news. He was a native of Karnataka and was studying Master of Science (MSc) at the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) in California, USA. He was a postgraduate student in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Saketh had gone missing since last week i.e. 9 February 2026. He was last seen near Lake Anza in the Berkeley Hills.
Local police, volunteers and his friends searched for him for several days. His bag with passport and laptop was found at the door of a house in Park Hills area. Sadly, his body was recovered from Lake Anza on Saturday, February 14, 2026. The Indian Consulate in San Francisco has confirmed this. The Embassy expressed deep sorrow and expressed deep condolences to the family.
What do you say friend?
He said that he will provide all possible help to the family, such as talking to the local police and making arrangements to bring the body back to India as soon as possible. Embassy officials are in direct contact with the family and are helping in all necessary work. Saketh’s roommate Baneet Singh wrote an emotional post on LinkedIn. He told that Saketh had become very sad and isolated for the last few days. He was not eating properly and was surviving only on chips and biscuits. There was no significant problem seen in the first two weeks, but suddenly his behavior changed. He started meeting less people and talking less.
Why didn’t Saketh want to live?
Banet recalled that on January 21, Saketh had invited him to visit Lake Anza, but Banet declined out of laziness. Now he is very regretful that the same place would take his life, he had no idea about this. Their last conversation took place when Saketh returned from class wearing a red robe. Banette jokingly asked, ‘Why are you wearing a gown in class?’ So Saketh said, ‘I don’t care about anything now. I’m chill and I don’t care what anyone thinks about me. I don’t care about anything. Banet wrote that after hearing this he felt that Saketh was very heartbroken. He said that the real enemy of life is not death, but indifference when a person stops caring about anything, even his own life.
Suicide or murder?
Saketh had also left everything. Banet believes that Saketh has committed suicide, but the local police has not yet given any official information about the cause of death. Investigation is ongoing. This news is very sad. Many students face mental pressure, loneliness and stress while studying abroad. In such a situation, family, friends and institutions need to pay more attention. This is a big shock for Saketh’s family and friends.
