‘He was never meant to be just a hero’: Samantha and TN CM Vijay’s reunion sends fans on a nostalgia trip
Newly appointed Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thalapathy Vijay, who is also a celebrated actor, has been part of several successful films over the decades. Recently, Samantha Ruth Prabhu met Vijay and took to social media to share a heartfelt picture with him, accompanied by a beautiful caption.
For the meeting, Samantha looked stunning in a red saree, while Vijay was seen dressed in white. Sharing the picture, she wrote, “When I landed in Chennai today, I felt this immense sense of happiness. I was going to meet our CM. I’ve always felt that Vijay sir was never meant to be just a hero on screen. His energy, his presence, and the way people respond to him always felt like he was meant for something bigger. What inspires me most is the courage it takes to step into a completely new arena. To leave behind what you have already mastered and take on a challenge where the stakes are so much higher. Not because it is easy, but because you believe you can make a difference.”
She further wrote that she feels that Vijay will surprise everyone. “I have a feeling Vijay sir will surprise even the people who already believe in him. Not because of the position he holds, but because of the intent with which he approaches it. Wishing him strength, wisdom, and the courage to stay the course. And for every young person watching, may this be a reminder that life can be so much bigger than the dream you started with.”
The pictures of the two surely made their fans nostalgic, as Vijay and Samantha’s jodi on the big screen was loved by one and all. Thalapathy Vijay and Samantha Ruth Prabhu have worked together in films like Theri, Kaththi and Mersal.
Originally a Telugu film, Maa Inti Baangaram will also be dubbed and released in Tamil under the title Engal Thangam. The film, which is also produced by Samantha, is set to hit the big screens on June 19, 2026.
Vijay and Sangeetha’s divorce case
Meanwhile, on the oerisnak front, the divorce case of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President C. Joseph Vijay and his wife Sangeetha was adjourned once again on Monday after neither of them appeared before the Chengalpattu Family Court.
As the matter came up for hearing, both Vijay and Sangeetha remained absent, and their counsel represented them before the court.
In view of their non-appearance, the judge adjourned the case and posted it for further hearing on August 7.
The high-profile matrimonial dispute has witnessed repeated adjournments in recent months. During earlier hearings as well, neither Vijay nor Sangeetha appeared in person before the court. On those occasions, both sides were represented by their lawyers, who informed the court about difficulties in attending the proceedings physically.
Sources familiar with the case said requests had been made seeking permission for the couple to participate in the proceedings through video conferencing. The plea reportedly cited security concerns and logistical challenges arising from Vijay’s position as Chief Minister and the public attention surrounding the case.
The family court had earlier deferred the matter to June 15 after considering submissions from both sides. However, with neither party appearing on Monday, the proceedings could not move forward, resulting in another postponement.

Sangeetha filed the divorce petition before the Chengalpattu Family Court in December 2025, seeking dissolution of her marriage with Vijay on the grounds of irreconcilable differences. In her petition, she also sought alimony and requested permission to continue residing in the couple’s residence at Neelankarai in Chennai.
The case has drawn considerable public and political attention due to Vijay’s status as the leader of the TVK and subsequently the Chief Minister. Every development in the proceedings has been closely followed by political observers and the media. With Monday’s adjournment, the matter will now be taken up nearly two months later, when the court is expected to consider the next steps in the proceedings.
