Health facilities are continuously expanding in Chhattisgarh, now people from other states are also reaching Ambedkar Hospital for surgery, successful surgery of MP patient…

Raipur. Due to the efforts of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, health facilities are continuously expanding in Chhattisgarh. On the instructions of Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, the basic facilities in the government hospitals of the state are increasing day by day. The result is that in the field of health facilities, people's trust in Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital affiliated to Pandit Nehru Medical College is increasing day by day. Due to the dedicated team of doctors and paramedical staff from various departments of this institute, doctors have been successful in even the most complex medical cases. This is the reason why patients not only from the state but also from neighboring states are coming here for treatment.

In this series, recently the team of doctors of Heart Surgery Department of Ambedkar Hospital has once again performed successful open heart surgery on a patient resident of Madhya Pradesh. This case of heart surgery is special because the patient's heart was functioning only 35 percent. The patient was suffering from a disease called rheumatic heart disease due to which there was shrinkage in two valves of the patient, aortic valve and mitral valve respectively and there was leakage in the third valve, tricuspid valve. In this operation conducted under the leadership of Dr. Krishnakant Sahu, Head of the Department of Heart Surgery, both the valves of the patient's heart were replaced with titanium metal valves and the third valve was repaired. After the surgery, the patient's health is continuously improving and after a day or two the patient will be discharged from the hospital. This operation has been done completely free of cost under Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Ayushman Yojana.

Dr. Santosh Sonkar, Medical Superintendent of Ambedkar Hospital, says that with the resources available in the hospital, we try to ensure that patients get the benefit of better treatment facilities. Patients from neighboring states like Madhya Pradesh are also getting treatment here under the Ayushman scheme. Such expansion of health facilities has maintained people's trust in Ambedkar Hospital.

The 52-year-old patient, resident of Anuppur, Madhya Pradesh, was having trouble breathing for four years. Was feeling short of breath while doing even the slightest work. Initially, it was treated like asthma by local doctors. Later, after examination by other doctors, it was found that three out of four valves of the patient's heart were damaged. Since replacing 3 valves is a very challenging operation, the patient's well-wishers advised him to go to Ambedkar Hospital. Still, the patient went to a well-known heart center in Madhya Pradesh, but there the patient did not believe it, then in other centers he was told the cost was more than Rs 5 lakh, so finally the patient reached Ambedkar Hospital.

The patient was re-examined by Dr. Krishnakant Sahu, Head of the Department of Heart Surgery, Ambedkar Hospital, and he was informed about the operation of all three valves of the heart. Since the patient's kidneys were also weak and his creatinine had also increased by 1.5 mg, due to which the operation was required. Told about being more risky and sometimes the kidney of such patients gets damaged after bypass and dialysis may be required, yet the patient goes to get his operation done in the heart surgery department of Ambedkar Hospital. It is ready.

The patient's disease is called rheumatic heart disease. This disease occurs if cold and cough are not treated properly in childhood. In this disease, throat infection occurs in childhood by a bacteria called Streptococcus which occurs in the form of common cold and cough. When this bacteria enters our body, our body's immune system produces antibodies against this bacteria, but instead of killing the bacteria, it mistakes our heart valves for bacteria and starts damaging them. Or we can say that this antibody is like a miss guided missile. This disease is most prevalent in North and Central India and least prevalent in South India.

In medical terms, the patient was suffering from a disease called rheumatic heart disease (RHD) with severe mitral stenosis with severe aortic stenosis plus tricuspid valve regurgitation. The patient underwent a surgery called Mitral Valve Replacement with Aortic Valve Replacement, Bi Leaflet Metallic Valve with Devigas Tricuspid Valve Repair.

The patient started eating his breakfast and dinner with his own hands on the second day of the operation. Earlier also, successful operation of patients from other states has been done in this institute. Even before this, a patient from Haryana got his surgery done in the Heart, Chest and Vascular Surgery Department of Ambedkar Hospital instead of getting the operation done in Delhi.

The team that performed the surgery on this patient included Head of the Department of Heart Surgery Dr. Krishnakant Sahu along with cardiac anesthetist Dr. Sankalp, critical care specialist Dr. Shruti Turkar, perfusionists Rahul and Digeshwar, OT technicians Bhupendra, Harish, Nirakar and nursing staff Rajendra, Narendra, Chova and Dushyant etc. were included.
