Health Tips: What should patients eat or not to control diabetes? Know health experts advice

New Delhi . The blood sugar of diabetic patients keeps increasing and decreasing and sometimes it becomes very difficult to keep it under control. Type 2 diabetes patients are advised to be very careful about their eating habits. Breakfast is the most important part of our daily diet. According to research, taking a balanced diet in the morning keeps blood glucose stable throughout the day. According to health experts, diabetic patients must include these 5 things in their breakfast.

Cereal and milk – If you already have a bowl of cereal with milk for breakfast, then you are on the right track. A 2018 study found that starting the day with high-protein milk-cereals can help keep type 2 diabetes at bay, and also reduce weight. A team from the Universities of Guelph and Toronto found that consuming breakfast cereals with milk significantly reduced blood glucose levels compared to water. Researchers say that the proteins found in milk slow down digestion, which keeps the stomach full for a long time. Choose whole grains with milk that have very little sugar.

Wholegrain toast and spread-
If you like bread or toast in the morning, just make sure it is whole grain. According to health experts, instead of white bread, choose bread made from whole grains like seeded batch bread, multi-seed, soya and flaxseed. These breads are especially good for diabetic patients. These improve digestion and the stomach remains full for a long time. You can also eat it by applying spread made of olive oil and eggs on it. Keep in mind that brown bread and wholemeal bread are different. Therefore, read the label while purchasing.

Yogurt-
Starting the day with yogurt or curd is a great way to start the day. Just keep in mind that it should not contain any amount of sugar. The sugar in yogurt not only increases diabetes but it also increases obesity. With increasing obesity, it becomes difficult to control diabetes and it increases the risk of many diseases. Too much sugar also damages teeth. Health experts say that eating plain yogurt or curd mixed with fresh fruits is healthier.

Oats-
Oats are a great option for people with type 2 diabetes due to their low glycemic index (blood sugar control). Food products which have low glycemic index easily balance the blood glucose level. Oats also have a good amount of fiber, which is essential for maintaining weight and digestive health. It also protects from heart diseases. The risk of heart disease is higher in diabetic patients. You can eat it by adding it to milk, khichdi, or even making smoothie.

Fiber foods-
Health experts say that diabetic patients should increase the amount of fiber in their diet to control blood sugar. You can add fiber to your breakfast in many ways. For this, eat berries in breakfast, add some dry fruits or half a banana to cereals or add grilled tomato to toast. Add nuts to yogurt or oatmeal, and choose oat-based, bran or wholegrain breakfast cereals, and wholemeal bread.
