Hearing on Meenakshi Natarajan’s Rajya Sabha candidature today in the Supreme Court

Bhopal : Neither the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Election Officer nor the Election Commission held any hearing on the decision to cancel his candidature. Therefore CongressRajya Sabha candidate Meenakshi Natarajan appeared before the vacation bench of the Supreme Court on Thursday morning. In his petition, Natarajan sought a stay on the announcement of the results on the grounds that June 11 was the last date for withdrawal of nominations till 3 pm.

The Supreme Court refused to hear the petition immediately citing precedential laws in election cases and listed the matter for Friday. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Natarajan, argued that the case must be heard today. Because the Election Officer is likely to declare the election uncontested after the deadline for withdrawal of nomination papers.
