Heatwave Diplomacy: Iran’s political move on Europe’s heatwave, proposal to supply AC in exchange for lifting the ban

New Delhi. These days, Europe is facing record-breaking heat and severe heatwaves. In many countries, the temperature is expected to reach 44 degrees Celsius, while in Spain, France and other parts, life is affected due to continuous heatwave. Meanwhile, Iran has put forward a proposal to the European countries which has sparked a new discussion in both international politics and diplomacy. Iran has said that if Europe lifts the sanctions imposed on it, it can help Europe get relief from the heat by supplying air conditioners and other cooling equipment manufactured here.

This proposal was shared on the social media platform X by the Iranian Embassy in Türkiye. The post said that despite facing economic sanctions for years, Iran has developed the ability to make air conditioners and other cooling equipment based on domestic technology. Not only this, the country has now reached the stage of producing and exporting them on a large scale. The embassy indicated that Iran is ready to help countries struggling with the heat if European countries show leniency in sanctions.

Experts believe that this is not only a business proposal but also a diplomatic message. Iran has long been opposing economic sanctions from Western countries. In such a situation, based on the current challenge of Europe, Iran has tried to show that despite the sanctions, it has achieved technological self-reliance and is now capable of playing its role in the global market.

Europe is currently facing serious impacts of climate change. Old heat records are being broken in many countries. Weather agencies have warned that the temperature may increase further in the coming days, which will also increase the risk of forest fire. Health experts have advised the elderly, children and those with pre-existing medical conditions to take special precautions as extreme temperatures can prove fatal for them.

According to reports, a large number of people have died in several countries including Spain and France due to extreme heat in recent weeks. The administration is advising people to stay at home, drink enough water and avoid sunlight. Emergency health services have also been put on alert in many cities.

Some analysts are also seeing Iran’s proposal as political satire. He believes that by giving this message, Iran has pointed to the challenge faced by European countries in which, despite being developed, they are struggling to effectively deal with extreme weather conditions. However, till now no official response has come from the European countries on this proposal.

Amidst the growing threat of climate change, this development also reminds us that weather-related disasters are no longer just a matter of the environment but are also giving a new direction to global politics, trade and diplomacy.
