Heavy rain alert in 10 districts of Tamil Nadu due to low pressure in Bay of Bengal
Chennai. The low pressure area developing in the Bay of Bengal has created a threat of heavy rain in Tamil Nadu. The Regional Meteorological Center has issued a warning that heavy rainfall may be recorded in at least 10 districts of the state on February 21. This system formed in the west-central Bay of Bengal and the surrounding eastern Indian Ocean is strengthening rapidly.
Dry weather will prevail across Tamil Nadu till February 18. Light to moderate rain may begin over southern coastal districts and delta region from February 19. The system will become more active on February 20, due to which moderate rainfall is expected across the state and Puducherry.
On February 21, heavy rains are possible in Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur and Pudukottai of the delta. Heavy rain may occur at one or two places in the southern districts of Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Tenkasi. Heavy rain with thunder and lightning is predicted in Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari on 22 February.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea on the southern coasts as the waves will remain rough. Residents of low-lying areas and flood affected areas have been asked to be cautious and follow the orders of the administration. Weather officials are keeping an eye on the situation.
