Nepal Flood: Heavy rains cause devastation in Nepal, examinations postponed, all schools closed for three days

Kathmandu: Due to heavy rains in Nepal, the Nepal government on Saturday has decided to close all schools across the country and postpone the ongoing examinations. Let us inform that this decision was taken after an emergency cabinet meeting by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Nepal. The ministry issued a notice directing all local levels to keep classes closed in all schools across Nepal till Tuesday.

Nepal's Education Minister Bidya Bhattarai, while speaking to the media, said, “Keeping in mind the safety of students across the country who have to pass through disaster-affected areas, the cabinet meeting has approved the closure of all lower secondary, secondary, and secondary schools for three days. “It has been decided to close higher secondary educational institutions.”

Due to the disaster caused by rain, 66 people have died in Nepal in the last 24 hours, due to which the situation has become even more serious. Apart from these deaths, there are also reports of floods and landslides in many areas, due to which life has become disrupted.

Along with closing the schools, the government has also decided to postpone the ongoing examinations. The Education Ministry said that the task of rescheduling the examinations has been entrusted to the concerned authorities. Furthermore, the decision to resume classes in schools at the local level will be taken by the local bodies, who will assess the damage and the condition of the schools. In terms of higher education institutions, universities have been given the responsibility to decide on the schedule of examinations and classes.

The Nepal government has taken this step giving priority to the safety of students and teachers. Due to this disaster, traffic has also been affected in many areas, making it difficult to reach schools and colleges. The ministry has said that the new schedule of examinations will be informed later. In this hour of crisis, the Government of Nepal and the Disaster Management Department are monitoring the situation and relief and rescue operations are underway in the affected areas.
