Hundreds of tourists are stranded in vast areas including Sandakphu due to snowfall. According to the sources of the Meteorological Department, there is a chance of rain and snow tonight. According to information from the administration, the roads are covered with about six inches of snow. Rain and snow are two weather images captured in the northern hill-plains. Tourists are still safe. However, it is reported that the work of bringing them down to the lower part has started.

But such snowfall in Sandakphu at the end of March is considered by meteorologists to be a freak of weather. However, Chandan Pradhan, president of Singalila Land Rovers Owners Association, is happy to see snowfall again after just one month. He said, “It snows in Sandakphu this time. This time too. As a result, more tourists will come here.” Not only Falut, Sandakphu but also Tamling, Tunglu, Manebhanjan are covered in snow. According to the sources of Meteorological Department, the Sikkim center has informed that Sandakphu may receive snow with light to moderate rain for the next four days.

Central Meteorological Department Sikkim Center Director Gopinath Raha said, “Snowfall will continue in high hilly areas. Heavy rain may also occur forming thunderclouds. It will rain equally in mountains and plains. However, the situation will be somewhat normal from Sunday. Raj Basu, Chairman of the State Eco Tourism Committee, said that there has been great excitement among the tourists after receiving the news of snowfall in Sandakphu. Hotels, homestays in Darjeeling are getting lots of calls. Meanwhile, North and East Sikkim is also receiving snowfall. Roads from Lachen to Thangu and Thangu to Gurudongmar are closed.

Besides, the road from Yumthang to Zero Point has also become impassable due to snowfall. Multiple roads are open from Chungthang to Lachung and Mangan. However, caution has been issued for movement of large vehicles except light vehicles. Changu Valley in East Sikkim, Jawaharlal Nehru Road including Nathu-La Pass is under a thick layer of snow. Changu Valley and Nathu-La Pass are closed to traffic. The issue of tourist passes has also been stopped there.
