Henderson honors late Diogo Jota with emotional celebration; Reveals the actual reason

In an emotional moment at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday evening, Brentford midfielder Jordan Henderson paid tribute to his late friend and former Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota following his first goal in a Brentford shirt during the club’s 1–1 Premier League draw with Leeds United.

Henderson opened the scoring in the 70th minute with a deflected strike, his first league goal since leaving Liverpool and his first since December 2021, before Leeds United’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised late on to secure a point for the visitors.

After finding the back of the net, the former England captain sat on the turf and performed a gesture made famous by Jota: miming a video-game controller, a celebration the Portuguese forward often used after scoring. It was a symbolic and heartfelt tribute to a man whose influence extended well beyond goals and assists.

Henderson revealed after the match that the goal was dedicated to Jota’s memory. “We’ll never forget him,” the midfielder said, explaining the reason behind the celebration. “This was for him.”
