Heron Mk II drone will be ready in India, will keep an eye on the enemies like a hawk
New Delhi. India is continuously adopting new technologies to strengthen its security and surveillance capabilities. In this direction, India has started the process of purchasing more numbers of Israel’s advanced Heron Mk II drones. This step has been taken keeping in mind the recent regional security challenges, so as to further strengthen the surveillance capacity along the borders and maritime areas.
According to media reports, all three branches of the Indian Army, Army, Air Force and Navy, are preparing to include this modern drone in their fleet. This will make the country’s joint surveillance system more effective and it will be easier to keep a constant eye on sensitive areas.
capable of flying for long periods of time
The Heron Mk II drone is designed to fly for long periods at medium altitude. It is a MALE (Medium Altitude Long Endurance) category drone, which is specially designed for intelligence gathering, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. The biggest feature of this drone is that it can fly continuously for about 45 hours. Apart from this, it can reach a height of about 35 thousand feet and is capable of monitoring long distances.
equipped with advanced technology
The Heron Mk II drone is fitted with modern sensors and communication systems, allowing it to conduct surveillance both day and night. Its maximum takeoff capacity is said to be around 1,430 kg and its speed can reach around 280 kilometers per hour.
The Satellite Communication System (SATCOM) installed in it makes it special. With the help of this technology, drones can be controlled even from a great distance. That means it can operate at distances far beyond traditional line-of-sight and remain on mission for long periods of time.
India has already bought it
India first purchased this drone a few years ago considering its security needs. At that time, following increased tension in the border areas, the government had purchased some Heron Mk II drones under emergency procedure. Those drones were deployed for Army and Air Force use.
construction plan in india
Now, along with new purchases, the possibility of manufacturing this drone in India is also being discussed. This scheme can be taken forward under the Make in India initiative. If this plan is successful, the Indian defense industry will benefit from new technology and production capacity. There is a possibility that the country’s defense companies and Israeli technology will work together in this project. This may also promote technology transfer and indigenous production in the future.
