Hideout Busted in North Kashmir Forests, Security Forces Recover Arms & Explosives

Srinagar: In a significant success, security forces on Tuesday busted a suspected terrorist hideout during a massive cordon and search operation (CASO) in the forest area of Kharpora village in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

The operation was launched jointly by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 176 Battalion, 2 Rashtriya Rifles of the Indian Army, Special Operations Group (SOG) units from Kunzar and Pattan, and Jammu and Kashmir Police. During the search operation, a hidden cache was discovered deep inside the forest area. From the spot, forces recovered arms, ammunition, and explosive materials, indicating a possible plan to carry out attacks in the region.

Among the recovered items were a pressure cooker fitted with a motorcycle battery, suspected to be part of an improvised explosive device (IED), and 53 rounds of AK-47 ammunition Additional materials included a nail cutter, comb, pliers, knife, diary, tasbi (rosary), an extra battery, and electric wire all of which had been carefully packed inside a small dustbin and concealed in a pressure cooker.

According to a police official, standard operating procedures were followed and the suspected IED was destroyed in a controlled blast by the Bomb Disposal Squad, ensuring no risk to civilians or personnel.

Security officials say the recovery points to the continuing attempts by terrorist elements to maintain logistical support and infrastructure in remote forested regions of north Kashmir. The area remains under tight surveillance, with further searches underway to rule out any more hideouts.

This recovery marks another blow to militant activities in the region as forces intensify operations in vulnerable areas ahead of the New Year.
