High alert in Gulf countries amid Iran-America tension, flights halted in many cities including Dubai
New Delhi: Tension has increased once again in the Middle East. High alert has been issued in the entire region after the attacks carried out by Iran targeting Kuwait and Bahrain. Bahrain temporarily closed its airspace due to security reasons, while many flights in the UAE and Kuwait were affected.
According to the US Army, many missiles fired by Iran either failed en route or were intercepted and shot down. After this, America retaliated by targeting a military base of Iran.
America retaliated
The US Central Command said that the retaliatory attack was carried out on Qeshm Island located near the Strait of Hormuz. An Iranian military ground control station was present here. According to reports, a desalination plant is also located in this area.
This action has taken place at a time when talks regarding ceasefire between Iran and America seem to be weakening. However, US President Donald Trump claimed that talks between the two countries are still going on.
Big impact on flights
After increasing tension, the routes of many flights around the Persian Gulf have been changed. Some planes were sent to safe places, while many flights were canceled or postponed. International airlines have started cutting their services to cities like Dubai, Tel Aviv, Beirut, Baghdad and Riyadh.
Many airlines canceled flights
Greece’s airline Aegean has canceled flights to Dubai until August and to Baghdad-Erbil until July. Air Baltic, Air Canada and Air France-KLM have also suspended services on several Middle East routes.
Apart from this, Lufthansa, SWISS and ITA Airways have decided to suspend flights to Dubai till September. IAG Group has currently postponed the resumption of flights to Doha, Dubai and Tel Aviv. Due to increasing tension in the Middle East, there is a possibility of further impact on air services and security system in the coming days.
