High Court said sterilization of dogs is a big scam – Read

Indore High Court has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the functioning of the Municipal Corporation on the increasing problem of stray dogs in the city. The court termed the sterilization figures presented by the corporation as doubtful and termed it a big scam. The court made it clear that there is a huge difference between the paper claims and the ground reality.

Warning of judicial inquiry on sterilization campaign
During the hearing, the bench of Administrative Judge Vijaykumar Shukla and Justice BK Dwivedi raised questions on the claims of the corporation. When the corporation said that they had sterilized 2.39 lakh dogs, the court made a sharp comment and said that the increasing number of dogs on the streets told a different story. The court warned that if concrete action was not taken, a judicial inquiry would be conducted into the sterilization campaign conducted so far.

Bad effect on children’s social development
The Honorable Judges expressed concern over the fact that children in the colonies have stopped coming out of the house due to fear of dogs. This is affecting their social development. The court said that spending two thousand rupees on sterilization of a dog and yet the problem remains the same is a serious matter. According to the court, Indore is now becoming a hub of stray dogs.

Walking and driving on the roads became difficult
While sharing personal experiences, the court said that it has become dangerous to go out on the streets at night. Packs of dogs are attacking pedestrians and two-wheeler riders, leading to increasing accidents. On the corporation’s argument that they take action upon receiving information, the court expressed displeasure and said that despite the instructions of November 25, no effective campaign has been seen in the city.

Next hearing on January 12
The High Court has now appointed senior advocate Piyush Mathur as amicus curiae in this case. The court has ordered the Municipal Corporation to take effective action to remove stray dogs from major places of the city before the next hearing. The next hearing of the case has been scheduled for January 12.
