HIL: Surma Hockey Club ready to face Hyderabad Storm in hopes of reaching the top

Rourkelaराउरकेला : Surma Hockey Club is at the halfway point of the first phase of the Men's Hockey India League to be held at the prestigious Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela. After four matches, they are just two points away from joint table-toppers Shrachi Rhad Bengal Tigers and Tamil Nadu Dragons. Surma Hockey Club will aim to continue their excellent performance in the second leg starting with the match against Hyderabad Storm on Saturday.

So far, Surma have registered one straight win against Vedanta Kalinga Lancers and two penalty shootout wins against Tamil Nadu Dragons and Delhi SG Pipers to grab seven points. “I think we've been very resilient. We haven't started our games at our best at times, but we've seen in almost every game that we've been able to get back into the game, fight to the end and We won at the finishing line. I think it's a really important habit that we don't let things go and we keep fighting till the last moment and I'm very happy with that from the beginning. is needed and that is our main focus for the next few games That we played better hockey the whole time. But I'm very happy with our finish every time, and I hope we keep getting points at the end of the game,” head coach Jaron Bart said in a HIL press release. In the previous game against Delhi SG Pipers, Soorma found themselves trailing by two goals in the last quarter. But captain Harmanpreet Singh led from the front and brought Soorma back into the game by scoring twice with his unstoppable drag flicks. A brilliant save from Vincent VanAsch in the penalty shootout ensured they came away from the game with a bonus point.

“It's definitely not part of the strategy. I think we try to perform as well in the first half as we do in the second half, but sometimes it doesn't happen. The opposition sometimes changes things, And we have to get through the first half of the game with the right amount of quality, the right amount of intent. And that's certainly not a substitute for the conviction we've shown in every second half so far. Very happy with this because it helped us finish the table with seven points. We have to make sure that we perform well again in the next game against Hyderabad Storm,” he explained.

Hyderabad Storm have won one of their matches and emerged victorious in the penalty shootout, meaning they are just two points away from equaling Soorma's score. 26-year-old Australian forward Tim Brandt has already scored two goals for his team. Toofans also has one of the best drag flickers in the world, Gonzalo Peillat.

“We played a practice match against them before the league started, but it was more for us to see ourselves. I think they have some great players at the top of the circle. And yes, they have But we have Vincent Vanash as the goalkeeper, and we definitely depend on him to make a difference for us. So, we know there are talented players on the team, but still, we rely on ourselves. More focused,” He commented.

“Victor Vagnez is also very close to being back on the field. We also don't want to rush things, so we have to take it day by day and hopefully we can get him back on the field as soon as possible because He is an important factor for our team,” Jaron said before the signing. (ANI)
