Himanta Biswa Sarma Backs Moran ELF as Key National Security Asset
The pace of infrastructure in the North East now seems to be becoming not just a story of connectivity but also a sign of strategic preparation. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma While announcing the construction of four new airports in Assam, he clearly said that Moran’s Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) is not an ordinary project, but an important asset related to national security.
The plan to construct airports in remote and strategically important areas like Majuli, Diphu, Umrangso and Manas will give a new direction to regional connectivity. Aircraft landing operations are going to start at the new terminal of Guwahati from February 22, which is being considered a big step towards establishing Assam as a major aviation hub of the Northeast.
The CM’s strict stance on the questions raised regarding Moran ELF indicates that the state government considers it important not only for development but also for disaster management and possible emergencies.
Are 4 new airports going to be built in Assam?

Why the controversy over Moran’s emergency landing facility?
The Chief Minister gave a sharp reaction to the questions raised regarding the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) built at Moran in Dibrugarh district. In case of war or emergency, this airstrip can play an important role for the defense forces.
Will this facility be effective even in floods and disasters?

This capacity is considered very important in a flood-affected state like Assam. He said that the country’s defense experts have also described this facility as strategically important.
Is there a China factor also behind this strategy?
Without naming any country, CM Sarma indicated that India’s opponents often try to belittle such projects. Considering the geographical location of the North-Eastern region, this area is considered strategically sensitive.
