Assam Chunav 2026: ‘Congress will form government in Pakistan and Bangladesh…’, CM Sarma targets Congress

Assam Assembly Elections: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a scathing attack on Congress on Wednesday. He said that Congress can form government in Pakistan or Bangladesh, but not in Assam. He also announced a major infrastructure boost initiative, including a proposed six-lane express highway between Guwahati and Nagaon. Speaking to reporters, Chief Minister Sarma claimed that Congress has no political future in India.

Taking an indirect dig at the alleged Pakistani links of Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi, the Chief Minister said that my wife has no connection with Pakistan and there is no question of my joining the Congress.

‘Congress will form government in Pakistan’

CM Sarma further said that Congress will form government in Pakistan and Bangladesh but it will never be able to form government in Assam. Taking aim at the opposition, Chief Minister Sarma accused Congress leaders of doing irresponsible politics. He also alleged that the Congress leader involved in rhino poaching would no longer have the courage to show his face in Nagaon. People are aware of such activities and those responsible for it will have to face consequences.

CM Sarma gave information about development plan

Chief Minister Sarma announced plans for a six-lane expressway connecting Guwahati and Nagaon, which aims to improve connectivity and boost economic growth in the region. He said that we are planning to build a modern expressway between Guwahati and Nagaon, which will significantly reduce the travel time and improve the infrastructure. He stressed that the BJP-led state government is committed to development and good governance and compared it with Congress politics.

When will the elections be held in Assam?

Voting for the 126-member Assam Assembly will take place on 9 April 2026, while the results will be declared on 4 May 2026. With the announcement of assembly election dates, political activities have intensified in the state and all the major parties are busy finalizing their respective strategies.
