Jagiroad: Before the assembly elections in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is taking out ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’. During this visit on Sunday, he announced that if his party comes back to power after the elections, an eviction campaign will be launched from five lakh bighas of land. CM Himanta started this journey with Dilip Saikia on his second day. The march started from Jagiroad and passed through Morigaon, Raha and Nagaon and ended in Berhampur.
Jan Ashirwad Yatra and CM’s Roadshow
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma is currently taking out ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’ (Public Support March) in support of his party BJP (BJP Assam). On Sunday, he concluded his journey from Jagiroad to Berhampur via Morigaon, Raha and Nagaon. During this time, ‘Bulldozer Salute’ was organized to welcome him, in which party workers climbed on top of 10 bulldozers and showered flowers.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM said, “If BJP comes to power for the third consecutive time, all alleged illegal encroachers in forests, tribal areas and blocks will be removed. No Bangladeshi infiltrator will live peacefully in Assam.” He also said that in the last five years, 1.5 lakh bighas of land has already been freed from encroachment.
Election messages and public support
While interacting with the public, Himanta said that the purpose of his visit is not just for land or employment, but also to garner support for strict action against illegal encroachers and infiltrators. He said, “People will meet me and say thank you that they got jobs, got land or action was taken against illegal encroachers. This is not just one issue, but the public is supporting us on many issues.”
CM also said that this time the participation of people in the yatra was very encouraging. “I didn’t think people would come out in such large numbers. Have seen many waves, but this is a completely different experience,” he said.
Assembly and political scenario of Assam
There are total 126 seats in Assam Assembly. In the last assembly, the ruling BJP has 64 MLAs, while its allies Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) have 9, UPPL 7 and BPF 3. The opposition has 26 MLAs from Congress, 15 from AIUDF and one from CPI(M). Apart from this, there is also an independent MLA.
This will be the first assembly election after the delimitation in 2023, so the situation is quite challenging for political parties. BJP is hoping for a strong mandate by emphasizing on its work of the last five years and issues related to the public.
