Hindus are being targeted, they will take advantage by bringing Taliban to power, 16 year old government fell.

New Delhi: Former diplomat, former Union Minister and Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar has given a big statement regarding the ousted Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina. He said that Sheikh Hasina should be allowed to stay in India as long as she wants. Speaking during the 16th APJ Kolkata Literary Festival on Saturday (January 11, 2025), Mani Shankar Aiyar said that Sheikh Hasina has done a lot of good work for India.

must remain host

He said, “I am happy that he has been granted asylum in India. We should continue to be his host as long as he wishes, even if it is for the rest of his life.” Aiyar also said that Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited Dhaka last month and held discussions with officials there. He stressed that India should continue dialogue with the interim government of Bangladesh and establish ministerial contacts. On the attacks on minority Hindus in Bangladesh, Iyer said that it is true that Hindus are being targeted in Bangladesh. However, he also said that these attacks are being exaggerated. He called it the result of political conflict and said that most of the attacks are taking place because minorities are supporters of Hasina.

Hasina had to leave the country

Let us tell you that Sheikh Hasina is in India since August 5 last year. Hasina was forced to flee the country after her 16-year-old government fell due to massive student-led protests. Mani Shankar Aiyar also expressed his opinion on the relations between India and Pakistan. He said that Pakistanis are also like Indians, but the tragedy of partition separated them. Clarifying his point further, he said, “There is very little difference between me being a Tamil, my wife being a Punjabi and her being a Pakistani Punjabi.”

I can't muster the courage

Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government, Iyer said that the government has the courage to carry out surgical strikes but cannot show the courage to talk to Pakistan. Iyer described Pakistan as both a victim of terrorism and a country that spreads terrorism. He said that Pakistan had thought that it would benefit by bringing Taliban to power in Afghanistan, but today Taliban has become the biggest threat for it. Iyer said that considering Pakistan as an enemy would be suicidal for India. He suggested that India should initiate dialogue with Pakistan, as was done during the tenure of Manmohan Singh on the Kashmir issue.
