“His passion and energy make him a joy to watch”: Mohinder Amarnath praises Team India player ahead of second Test against Australia
Former India all-rounder Mohinder Amarnath has said that he enjoys watching Virat Kohli in action. The 1983 World Cup winner expressed his love for the legendary batter, who recently scored a hundred in the second innings of the Perth Test against Australia.
The 36-year-old was struggling for runs before landing in Australia but returned to his best in the first contest of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He faced 143 balls and hit 8 boundaries and 2 sixes to reach the three-figure mark for the 30th time in his Test career.
Speaking at the launch of his book Fearless: A Memoir. Amarnath lauded Kohli.
“I like watching Virat Kohli and also admire him. He has a lot of passion for the game and plays with energy. He has been performing and I think young players can learn from him,” he said.
Kohli was dismissed for five runs in the first innings but made amends with an unbeaten 100 in the second essay.
Amarnath also admitted that he is impressed with the young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, who accumulated 161 runs in the second innings of the Perth Test.
“I am very pleased with him. I hope he continues to score runs as he is very positive player. One failure doesn’t make a player bad and if you are talented, I am sure things will get better for you,” he added.
In 15 Test, the southpaw has scored 1,568 runs at an average of 58.07, with four hundreds and eight half-centuries.
