Historic decline in Trump’s popularity, Iran war and back-breaking inflation have taken away the sleep of Americans, is the White House chair in danger?
News India Live, Digital Desk: The beginning of the year 2026 has been like a nightmare for the President of America, the world’s most powerful country, Donald Trump. On one hand, the fierce war with Iran and on the other hand, rising inflation in the country have taken Trump’s popularity to its lowest level till date (Record Low). The latest opinion poll of ‘Reuters/Ipsos’ (Reuters/Ipsos) has increased the heartbeat of the White House. According to the survey, the American public now seems to be shunning Trump’s war policy and economic decisions. Huge drop in approval rating: Support limited to 34%. According to the latest data, President Trump’s approval rating has fallen to just 34%. When he took charge in January 2025, his rating was 47%. But his popularity has declined steadily in the past few months since the start of the military conflict with Iran. This is the lowest level of his tenure. The people involved in the survey made it clear that they are not satisfied with the functioning of the government, especially the anger and disappointment is clearly visible in the middle class families. Impact of Iran War: Oil prices on fireThe military campaign launched by America and Israel against Iran on February 28 has created turmoil in the global market. Due to this war, the supply of oil from the Strait of Hormuz has been disrupted, due to which the prices of gasoline in America have increased by more than 40%. Today, petrol prices in America are at the highest level in four years. The common American citizen, who was already struggling with inflation, is now considering the increased fuel prices as the result of Trump’s ‘war policy’. Cost of Living has increased the concern. The war has not been limited only to the borders, but it has had a direct impact on the kitchens and pockets of Americans. Only 22% people in the survey believed that the Trump administration has been successful in controlling rising costs and inflation. The middle class says that the government is more focused on foreign wars (Military Adventurism) rather than domestic issues and economy. This is the reason why Trump’s own supporters and some factions of the Republican Party are now beginning to question his leadership. 2026 Midterm Elections and Trump’s Challenges As the 2026 midterm elections are approaching, this falling rating is an alarm bell for the Republican Party. The Democratic Party is trying to take advantage of this situation and make the war’s unpopularity an election issue. Apart from this, the recent attempt to attack Trump during the ‘White House Correspondents’ Dinner’ has also sparked a debate on security in the country. Now it remains to be seen whether Trump will be able to win back public trust by changing his policies or whether this decline will prove fatal for his political future.
