Historic meeting of Trump-Xi Jinping: “China has a great leader,” Donald Trump said in Beijing
Beijing: A new chapter was written on Thursday amid the ongoing tension between the world’s two largest superpowers, America and China. US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a very important bilateral meeting at the ‘Great Hall of the People’ in Beijing. The eyes of the whole world were fixed on this meeting, because it is being considered as a “high-stakes” meeting not only in terms of trade relations between the two countries but also in terms of global security.
Welcome ceremony and children won hearts
At the beginning of the meeting, President Trump expressed his gratitude to Xi Jinping and his delegation. Trump praised the formal welcome ceremony held in Beijing. “It was an honor the likes of which very few people have seen before,” he said. Trump specifically mentioned the children present there, saying that they were beautiful and amazing, who reflect the future image of China.
“Our relationship is the longest and deepest” – Trump
Donald Trump praised Xi Jinping’s leadership, calling him a “great leader”. Trump emphasized that he and Xi have had the longest and most direct communications of any US or Chinese president. He said, “Whenever any problem arose between us, we used to solve it immediately through phone call. Our working together has been beneficial for both the countries.”
Business and future expectations
The US President has brought with him a large delegation of America’s leading business executives. He indicated that he was keen to take trade and business engagement with China to new heights. Describing this summit as historic, Trump said that relations between America and China are going to be better than ever before.
Earlier, Xi Jinping warmly welcomed Trump upon his arrival in Beijing and the two leaders shook hands. This meeting is taking place at a time when there was a long standing tussle between the two countries on issues like trade war, technology and regional security.
