Historical record of Ministry of Social Justice! Highest expenditure of Rs 11,810 crore in 2025-26, emphasis on SC-OBC welfare schemes

New Delhi: The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on Saturday said it has made the highest ever expenditure of Rs 11,810.82 crore in the financial year 2025-26, which is about 14 percent more than Rs 10,409 crore in the last financial year. According to the official statement, the expenditure has been incurred by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment of the Ministry and reflects the government’s commitment on timely utilization of funds for welfare schemes. The department also spent the highest ever expenditure on welfare schemes run for Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes during 2025-26.

Record expenditure has also been made on programs related to the welfare of sanitation workers, rehabilitation of senior citizens, transgenders and beggars, the statement said. According to the ministry, this expenditure underlines the government’s commitment towards social justice, empowerment and inclusive growth of the deprived and vulnerable sections.
