Thousands die in Kumbh stampede to see Nehru

If we examine the history of Prayagraj Mahakumbh, it started with accidents. It is the year 1954. After independence, Mahakumbh was being organized for the first time in Prayagraj. The government did not want to leave any stone unturned in the preparations. At that time President Dr. Rajendra Prasad was also doing Kalpavas for one month. 3rd February was the day of Mauni Amavasya. Lakhs of people had reached Sangam after taking bath. There was mud because of the rain. News came that Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was coming. The crowd gathered to see him. Seeing the crowd coming towards them, the Naga monks took swords and tridents and ran to kill the people. A stampede broke out. One who fell once could not get up again. To save their lives, people climbed electric poles and hung on wires. More than a thousand people were killed in the stampede.

The UP government said that no accident took place, but a photographer had secretly taken the picture. The picture was published in the newspaper the next day. Political uproar arose. Nehru had to give a statement in Parliament. After 65 years, in 2019, PM Modi held Nehru responsible for that accident.
