India broke the record! Became the first team to win T20 World Cup three times
This is Team India’s third T20 World Cup title.
India win T20 World Cup:Under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian team created another golden chapter in the history of cricket and gave India its third T20 World Cup title by defeating New Zealand by 96 runs on Sunday (8 March). Sanju Samson played an important role in this victory, while Jasprit Bumrah’s contribution was also unforgettable.
The Indian team has become the first men’s international team to win the T20 World Cup for the second consecutive time. With this, India has become the first team in the world to win the T20 World Cup title three times (2007, 2024 and 2026). While West Indies and England have won the T20 World Cup title twice each so far, India is the only team to have won the trophy thrice.
Along with this, the old wounds of Rohit Sharma’s team, which lost the ODI World Cup final to Australia on the same ground three years ago, will also be healed. Sanju Samson scored 89 runs in 46 balls, while Abhishek Sharma scored 52 runs in 21 balls, taking India to 98 runs in the powerplay itself and laying the foundation of victory. Batting first, India scored 255 runs for five wickets.
Jasprit Bumrah once again showed his ability, taking four wickets for just 15 runs in four overs and proving why he is the number one fast bowler in the world. This Indian team, adorned with the big stars of IPL, was considered the strongest contender for the title from the very beginning, and with the emergence of a new match winner in every match, this claim became stronger.
Jeet started in 2007
The T20 World Cup in Indian cricket started in 2007, when India won the first title. If that victory was historic, then this victory of 2026 will also be remembered as a balm on the wounds of 2023. Abhishek Sharma, who was struggling with poor form throughout the tournament, batted brilliantly in the final, while Sanju Samson won the hearts of the entire nation with the most memorable performance of his career.
Jasprit Bumrah’s precise yorkers, Axar Patel’s amazing catches and Ishan Kishan’s explosive batting will be talked about for years. Abhishek Sharma scored 52 runs in 21 balls, while Samson played a tremendous inning of 89 runs in 46 balls. He thrilled the packed audience sitting in the world’s largest stadium by hitting a total of eight sixes over long on, long off and square leg.
Samson scored runs all around the ground, smashing the balls of Rachin Ravindra, Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry. This batsman from Kerala, who has played brilliant innings against West Indies and England, silenced his critics by playing another tremendous innings.
At the same time, Abhishek Sharma showcased his talent and put pressure on New Zealand’s fast bowlers. He scored 50 runs in just 18 balls and completed his half-century with a six.
New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner made a mistake in correctly estimating the pitch of Narendra Modi Stadium. The visiting team also made a selection error when they left out off-spinner Cole McConchie, who had dismissed Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton in the semi-finals.
Abhishek hit five fours off the bowling of Jacob Duffy, who was playing in place of McConchie. Duffy conceded 42 runs in three overs and could not take any wicket. Whereas, Matt Henry gave 49 runs in four overs and took one wicket. India had scored 92 runs in six overs of powerplay.
