Hitting a sixer on the first ball is a normal thing: Vaibhav Suryavanshi Gujarati

In IPL 2025, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Rajasthan Royals has impressed the whole world. This player from Bihar has broken many records by scoring a century in 35 balls. He has created a stir in the IPL by scoring the youngest century in T20 cricket by scoring 101 runs with the help of 11 sixes and seven fours in 38 balls. Now, the entire cricket world is in awe of his adventurous strokeplay. However, Vaibhav says that hitting a sixer on the first ball is a normal thing for him. Vaibhav said that serious situations do not have much effect on him. This was Vaibhav’s only third match in IPL. He scored 34 runs in 20 balls in his IPL debut match against Lucknow Supergiants and during his innings he hit a sixer on the first ball. Vaibhav had hit this sixer on the bowling of Shardul Thakur. To complete his century, Vaibhav dismissed Afghanistan’s experienced spinner Rashid Khan. After leading his team to victory against Gujarat Titans, Vaibhav while talking to IPL T20 website said, ‘It was a normal thing for me. I have played for India at Under-19 and also at the local level. There also I hit a sixer on the first ball. There was no pressure on me to play the first 10 balls. It was clear in my mind that if the ball comes in my range, I will hit it.

Vaibhav said, ‘It doesn’t seem like I was thinking that this is my first match.’ Yes, there was an international bowler in front of me and the stage was big, but I just concentrated on my game. This young player from Samastipur, Bihar was born exactly three years after the start of IPL. Suryavanshi also thanked his father Sanjeev and mother Aarti who played an important role in him reaching this position. He said, ‘Whatever I am today is because of my parents.’ He has contributed a lot in helping me reach this level. Because of my practice sessions, my mother can sleep at 11 pm and wake up at 3 am. In this way the man can sleep for three-four hours.

Vaibhav said, ‘My father left his job for me.’ My elder brother is taking care of the work and running the house is very difficult, but father is supporting me. God ensures that those who work hard never fail. The results we are seeing and the success we are achieving are all because of my parents. He said, ‘I want to play for India and for this I will have to work hard.’ I can’t stop working hard until I reach that level. I will try to perform well for the country.
