Budget airline HK Express has been named the world’s safest low-cost airline this year by AirlineRatings.com, the world’s only airline safety and product rating website.

Jetstar Australia was in second place, followed by Scoot, a low-cost subsidiary of national carrier Singapore Airlines.

Vietnam’s Vietjet Air also made it into the list at seventh place.

All airlines were evaluated with a range of criteria, including their rate of flight incidents, fleet age, fleet size, fatalities and compliance with international audits and standards by globally recognized aviation organizations such as the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Airlines operating fewer than 25 aircraft were excluded from consideration.

Hong Kong Express, fully owned by Cathay Pacific Airways, provides scheduled air service to 27 destinations in Asia.

The airline’s main hub at Hong Kong International Airport uses a fleet that consists exclusively of the Airbus A320 family.
