Holi Bhai Dooj 2026, is it on March 4 or March 5? Know the date and importance

The festival of Holi 2026 is not over yet. The playing of colors and Holika Dahan is over, but it is usually followed by Holi Bhai Dooj, also known as Bhratri Dwitiya. This day is not that famous because most people know about Bhai Dooj which comes after Diwali.

Similarly, Bhratri Dwitiya is also a festival of brother-sister relationship. As the name suggests, Bhai means brother, and Dooj means the second day after the full moon, traditionally called Dwitiya Tithi. In 2026, there has been some confusion about whether the festival is on March 4 or March 5.

According to Drik Panchang, Dwitiya Tithi will start on the evening of March 4, 2026 and will continue till March 5. As per the rules of Udaya Tithi, where a festival is celebrated on the day when the Tithi prevails at the time of sunrise, Holi Bhai Dooj will be celebrated on March 5, 2026.

The most important custom of this day is when sisters apply tilak on the forehead of their brothers, and pray for their long life, prosperity and safety. Although this festival can be celebrated throughout the day, the auspicious time for this custom is in the morning time or Abhijeet Muhurta (afternoon time) after sunrise.

What is the significance of Holi Bhai Dooj 2026?

Holi Bhai Dooj celebrates the everlasting bond between brothers and sisters. Holi is known for its bright colors and large crowds, but Bhai Dooj is more filled with intimacy and devotion.
