Hollywood star Simu Liu recreates figure skating sensation Alysa Liu’s viral Olympic dance
Alysa recently brought her viral ice dance to the Broadway stage. The 20-year-old athlete, whose gala performance on the track “Stateside” amassed tens of millions of views following the 2026 Winter Olympics, met up with actor Simu backstage at the hit comedy play “Oh, Mary!”.
A video widely shared across social media last week captured the delightful crossover as Simu, Alysa, and several Broadway artists recreated the iconic choreography. The clip opens with Simu standing in front of the camera with his arms outstretched before panning to other theater members. At the end Alysa appeared alongside the entire group.
“The American Theatre called and Alysa Liu answered,” the official account of “Oh, Mary!” wrote last week.
“Just a buncha Liu-natics,” Simu, 36, humorously commented on the post with a clever play on the word lunatics and their shared surname.

During her backstage visit at the theater, a premier venue in Manhattan’s historic Theatre District, which boasts 41 professional theaters and serves as the commercial heart of the American stage, Alysa spent time chatting and taking photos with the cast.
She formed a quick bond with Allison Hsu, Simu’s fiancée. The two found immediate common ground, as Hsu had pursued figure skating herself before transitioning into the music industry. They exchanged phone numbers and even discussed the possibility of hitting the ice together in the future, People reported.
Simu also mimicked ice skating moves backstage to tease the group. The actor playfully executed an aerial spin and dropped into a dramatic kneeling pose to conclude his impromptu routine as the cast greeted the audience post-show.

Born in Harbin, China, and raised in Canada, the Chinese-Canadian actor and stuntman became a Hollywood star with his leading role in the 2021 Marvel movie “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”. Beyond the screen, he has frequently expressed that performing on Broadway is a lifelong dream.
For Alysa, this Broadway visit came after a memorable Winter Olympics. She ended a 24-year drought for the U.S. by capturing the women’s singles gold medal and helped secure another gold in the team event.
But it was her exhibition performance at the Olympic figure skating gala on Feb. 21 that truly captured the internet’s heart. Dressed in a vibrant blue outfit featuring details symbolizing the Olympic rings, she skated to “Stateside,” a collaborative track by British singer PinkPantheress and Swedish pop star Zara Larsson.
Alysa chose the song specifically to showcase her unique personality and natural, carefree style on the ice. The energetic and joyful routine quickly went viral, earning high praise from millions of viewers, including PinkPantheress herself.
