Homebound: Film Homebound shortlisted for Oscar 2026 surrounded by controversies

The writer made serious allegations against Karan Johar
Homebound, (News), Mumbai: Just a few days ago, news came that the film Homebound, made under the banner of Karan Johar’s company Dharma Productions, has been shortlisted for Oscar 2026. Now this film is embroiled in controversies. Actually, writer and journalist Pooja Changoiwala has accused this film of copyright infringement. He says that this film has been copied from his book of the same name.

His book came out in the year 2021. Making these allegations, Pooja Changoiwala has taken legal action. He has also claimed that the makers not only did not use the title of his book but also copied the dialogues, scenes, event sequences and narrative structure.

These were the allegations

Pooja Changoiwala has taken legal action against Dharma Productions, Netflix Entertainment. Pooja Changoiwala said that after watching the film, I came to know that the makers have not only used the title of my book but have repeated many parts of my book in the second part.

He also said that on October 15, my lawyer issued a legal notice to Dharma Productions, accusing them of violating my rights and not using my things. In response to the notice, the makers refused to acknowledge the violation and the content continued to be used on Netflix.

The case will go to Bombay High Court

He further said that to protect my rights I have now initiated legal action against Dharma Productions and Netflix by filing an application in the Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority under Section 12A of the Commercial Courts Act, 2015. This is a process which is necessary to be done before filing a case in the Bombay High Court.

It is important to protect your rights

She says that I know that with this decision I am challenging big institutions, but I believe that it is important for writers to protect their work if their work is being misused without their consent.

Now it remains to be seen what happens further in this matter. This film has been directed by Neeraj Ghaywan. Ishaan Khattar, Janhvi Kapoor and Vishal Jethwa are in important roles in this film.
