Honda Plant: Honda increased two-wheeler production in India, took a big decision regarding Tapukara plant
Honda Plant: Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has announced the expansion of its manufacturing capacity in view of the increasing demand for two-wheelers in India. The company will set up a third production line at its plant located at Tapukada in Alwar district, which will significantly increase the production capacity. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said that Rajasthan is becoming a favorite destination for manufacturing. He said that this investment by HMSI will not only increase production capacity, but will also create new employment opportunities and strengthen the automobile ecosystem.
According to HMSI, the new production line is expected to be operational by the year 2028 and will have an annual production capacity of 6.7 lakh units. After this expansion, the total production capacity of Tapukara plant will increase to 20.1 lakh units per year. The project will also create employment opportunities for more than 2,000 people, thereby boosting the local economy. Under this expansion plan, the company will invest approximately Rs 1,500 crore and acquire 73,700 square meters of land in Tapukara. The new line will produce commuter segment models of scooters and motorcycles.
HMSI currently operates four manufacturing plants in India with a total annual production capacity of 62.5 lakh units. The company has produced more than 7 crore two-wheelers so far. Additionally, the company is also adding a fourth production line at its Vithalapur plant in Gujarat, which is likely to be operational by 2027.
Production capacity will be 80 lakh units by 2028
- Tsutsumu Otani, President and CEO of HMSI, said that India is going through a rapid mobility transformation and the company is committed to playing a leading role in this transformation. He said that strengthening the production ecosystem at the Tapukara plant will make the supply chain more resilient and future-ready. This will enable the company to respond faster to market demand.
- The company has said that after these expansion plans, its total production capacity will increase to approximately 80 lakh units per year by the year 2028. Additionally, HMSI is also working on accelerating adoption of sustainable initiatives like solar energy, water conservation and recycling to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
