According to The Star, Cheung has taken on various jobs in recent months to support his family of six. From cable wiring and construction work to distributing fliers and condoms, he has explored multiple avenues to earn a living. Last March, he resorted to online crowdfunding, and by July, he was seen working at a snack shop.
Despite these efforts, Au recently expressed her frustration and despair over their worsening situation in an Instagram post. She revealed her deep concern about their inability to repay debts, even after initially receiving support from others.
“Everyone is now relentlessly pursuing repayment,” Au shared. “I thought that things would get better by working hard and making changes, but it hasn’t. It feels like life is playing a cruel joke on me.”
“I’m out of work, one child after another falls sick, and life hasn’t changed,” she added. “It’s difficult – no milk powder or food. How am I supposed to repay anything?”
Au stressed that their failure to repay debts stems not from unwillingness but sheer inability.
“I can’t think of a way out. Of course, if you borrow, you should repay, but I really have nothing left. I have to take care of four kids and can’t even leave the house,” she said.
Cheung, 40, began his entertainment career in 2003 as a member of the boy band Boy’z, later renamed Sun Boy’z. He gained recognition, winning several music awards in Hong Kong. However, after Sun Boy’z disbanded in 2008, his transition into acting brought limited success and few roles.
He has frequently been in the media spotlight due to his tumultuous personal life, which has negatively impacted his public image and hindered his acting career.
He married Au, 34, in 2019, and the couple shares four sons, aged between one and five. Their financial troubles have been compounded by Cheung’s tarnished reputation following a 2019 cheating scandal involving four women, including Hong Kong actress April Leung. Since then, Cheung has struggled to secure performance opportunities.
