Jakartaḥ At least 16 people were killed when a passenger bus crashed on Indonesia’s main island Java late Sunday night. Officials have given this information Budyono, head of the search and rescue agency, said the bus carrying 34 people lost control on a toll road and overturned after hitting a concrete barrier.
He said the inter-provincial bus was traveling from the capital Jakarta to the country’s ancient royal city of Yogyakarta when it overturned on a winding road on the Krapyak Tollway in the city of Semarang in ‘Central Java’. “The accident was so severe that many passengers jumped out and were trapped inside the bus,” Budiono said.
He said that about 40 minutes after the accident, police and rescue teams reached the spot and recovered the bodies of six passengers. Budyono said 10 other people died on the way to hospital or during treatment. He said that of the 18 victims undergoing treatment in two nearby hospitals, the condition of five is critical and the condition of 13 is critical.
