Meerut, 24 February. A major accident took place in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Five children and one woman were burnt alive in a massive fire that broke out in the house of clothing merchant Iqbal located at Islamabad Street No. 3 of Lisadi Gate police station area. Another woman was seriously injured. On information, police, fire brigade and SP and DM reached the spot. The bodies were taken out after the fire brigade extinguished the fire. At the time of the accident, the men of the house had gone to the mosque to offer namaz.
Mohammad Farooq said, “He had gone to offer Namaz, when he got information from the neighbor that the house was on fire. When he reached the spot, he came to know that the family has been brought to the hospital. After reaching here, he came to know that my daughter has died. Apart from this, brother’s wife Rukhsar, nephew Akdas and twin daughters Anamika-Inaya died.”
SSP Avinash Pandey said, “At around 8:49 pm on Monday evening, we received information about fire in Haji Iqbal’s house in Lisadi Gate area. Within three minutes, emergency vehicle number 112 reached the spot, after which other officers and firemen also arrived. Seven people trapped in the house were taken to the hospital, where the doctor declared 1 woman and 5 children dead. One injured woman is undergoing treatment. Till now There is a possibility of fire due to short circuit. Investigation is being done by the electricity department and fire brigade.
District Magistrate VK Singh said, “A fire broke out in a residential house in Kidwai Nagar, Lisadi Gate and we received information about it around 9 pm. The cause of the fire has been investigated by both the electricity department and the fire department. Initial reports indicate that the fire may have been caused by some electrical appliance and may have spread to the clothes kept in the house. A detailed investigation is still underway and the final report is awaited.”
“We tried to help the family, but the family refused to take any help, saying they did not need help and wanted to handle everything themselves,” says SP MLA Rafiq Ansari.
