Horrific train accident in Thailand: 22 people killed, 55 injured

Bangkok: At least 22 people were killed and 55 others were injured when a passenger train collided with a crane in Thailand’s Nakhon Ratchasima province on Wednesday. According to local media reports, the accident occurred around 09:05 am local time when a passenger train traveling from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani derailed after colliding with a construction crane.

Emergency rescue teams immediately reached the spot and started pulling out the passengers trapped under the debris using ‘hydraulic cutting tools’. The injured passengers have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Piphat Rachalakitprakarn said he has instructed agencies to conduct a transparent and comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the accident and prevent such incidents in the future.
