Hotel tycoon Robert Kuok tops Malaysia’s rich list in 2026
Hotel and property magnate Robert Kuok, 102, remains the richest Malaysian this year, according to the latest billionaire rankings released by Forbes.
The Hong Kong-based tycoon is placed 204th on the global list with a net worth of US$14.2 billion, up 17% from a year earlier.

Kuok is known as the “Sugar King of Asia” and the founder of the Shangri-La luxury hotel chain. He owns Kuok group, which has interests in hotels, real estate and commodities.
Trailing Kuok is Quek Leng Chan, executive chairman of property developer Hong Leong Group, who ranks 486th with US$7.6 billion.
He is followed by Lee Thiam Wah, founder of convenience store chain operator 99 Speed Mart Holdings, at 595th with a fortune estimated at US$6.8 billion.
Other prominent Malaysians featured include Koon Poh Keong of Press Metal Aluminium Holdings, with $6.8 billion, and Jeffrey Cheah of construction giant Sunway, with $5.6 billion.
Altogether, 15 Malaysians appear on this year’s global billionaire list.
