How Bengaluru woman filed fake gang-rape complaint to hide relationship with cabbie, mislead boyfriend- The Week

A Bengaluru woman filed a gang-rape complaint against a cab driver and his friends last week, only to be revealed that she cooked up the story to mislead her boyfriend. Police learnt that she was actually having a consensual relationship with the driver after they found her statements contradictory.

The woman, 22, who is a nursing student from Kerala, later confessed that she falsely claimed she was gang-raped to mislead her boyfriend about the scratch marks on her neck.

In the complaint filed at the Madivala police station on December 6, she alleged that the cab driver and his friends gang-raped her near Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal in Bengaluru on December 2, according to The Times of India.

The case was transferred to Banaswadi police station under whose limits the alleged crime took place. Police soon tracked down the cab driver, 33, who is a father of two children. He claimed he was innocent and that he was in a consensual relationship with the woman.

Police also checked the WhatsApp chats of the woman and the cab driver as well as their previous locations. The CCTV footage recovered from various locations was also key to unravelling the case, said the report.

The investigation revealed that both of them were at the railway station together from 11.30 pm on December 2 to 5.30 am the following morning.

Police found out that the duo was already acquainted as they both hailed from Kerala and partied together. They also could not find any evidence on gang rape or the existence of the cabbie’s accomplices.
