How big a blow is the departure of Raghav Chadha, Kejriwal’s ‘trusted soldier’, to AAP?
There was a time when Raghav Chadha was Arvind Kejriwal’s most trusted soldier. Whenever any major crisis befell the party, Raghav Chadha used to stand as a shield. There is talk everywhere of Raghav Chadha’s departure from Aam Aadmi Party, who has given a befitting reply to all the allegations of BJP in his gentle manner. Raghav Chadha, who took charge of the party’s strategy and elections, accused AAP of deviating from the path and cited this as the reason for separation from the party. But now the question is arising that how big a blow is Raghav Chadha’s departure for the Aam Aadmi Party?
Arvind Kejriwal had met Raghav Chadha during the movement of social activist Anna Hazare. Raghav was a founding member of the Aam Aadmi Party since 2012. Raghav Chadha, who returned from studying at the London School of Economics, was entrusted by Arvind Kejriwal with the task of preparing the draft of the Delhi Janlokpal Bill. He had to help advocate Rahul Mehra. This was Raghav Chadha’s first political assignment in Aam Aadmi Party.

Gradually, as the trust in Raghav Chadha increased, his position and status within the party also started increasing. Soon Arvind Kejriwal handed him the responsibility of party spokesperson. He became the youngest spokesperson of AAP. At the age of 26, he was made the treasurer of the party. In 2013, he also got a place in the team that made the manifesto of Aam Aadmi Party.
In the 2020 assembly elections, Arvind Kejriwal fielded Raghav Chadha from Rajinder Nagar. After winning the elections, Chadha not only became an MLA, but was also appointed Vice Chairman of Delhi Jal Board. In 2022, Arvind Kejriwal handed over the responsibility of Punjab to Raghav Chadha. The party sent him as co-in-charge. Raghav Chadha prepared a brilliant strategy for Punjab elections. The result was that out of total 117 assembly seats, AAP won 92 seats.
Raghav Chadha’s strategy in Punjab greatly impressed AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal. After Punjab, he was made co-in-charge of Gujarat. Aam Aadmi Party won 5 seats here for the first time. Raghav Chadha soon got the reward of victory in Punjab and good performance in Gujarat. He was sent to Rajya Sabha from Punjab only in 2022. Raghav Chadha became the youngest MP to reach Rajya Sabha at the age of just 33. Later, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann made him the head of his advisory panel.

Raghav Chadha’s status can be gauged from the fact that the opposition in Punjab has been accusing him of being ‘Super CM’. Dozens of vehicles and police vehicles were moving in his convoy. From Delhi to Punjab and Gujarat, Raghav Chadha was AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s most trusted strategist. But Raghav Chadha’s political journey, which started as a volunteer in the Aam Aadmi Party, ended on 24 April 2026 after he was removed from the post of deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha.
Raghav Chadha’s departure is not an ordinary incident for Aam Aadmi Party. Raghav Chadha has full knowledge of every activity, event, strategy and ups and downs of the party from the beginning till now, because the man is as trustworthy as he is. The more access he has to resources and information. After Arvind Kejriwal, Raghav Chadha was the only leader of the party who had equal influence from Delhi to Punjab.
Raghav Chadha will have more information about the internal affairs of the party than dozens of leaders. There was a time when any leader would first meet Raghav Chadha and later he would have access to Arvind Kejriwal. It is clear from this that Raghav Chadha was an important link between Kejriwal and all the party leaders. He had direct relations with all the party leaders. A glimpse of his political grip was visible on Saturday also. When he defeated 7 out of 10 AAP MPs in the Rajya Sabha and the party did not even notice it. If you had any inkling, you would not have appointed Ashok Mittal as deputy leader in Rajya Sabha instead of Raghav Chadha.
