Preparations for Pidiya Vrat, dedicated to the sacred relationship of brother and sister, have started in every house of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. In the year 2025, Pidiya Vrat will be observed on 20th November, while this traditional festival will conclude with Pidiya Visarjan on 21st November. It is believed that on this day sisters worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati with full rituals for the long life, happiness, prosperity and security of their brothers.

 

It is described in folklore that pleased with the true fast and devotion of a sister, Lord Shiva blessed that whoever observes Pidiya Vrat on this date, every trouble will be away from his family and there will be peace in the house. Because of this belief, it is also known as Rudra Pidiya Vrat and ‘Chhoti Rakhi’ in many places.

When is Pidiya Vrat 2025?

In the year 2025, Pidiya Vrat will be observed on 20th November. This fast will be completed with Pidiya Visarjan on 21st November.

20 November 2025 – Fasting/Upash and eating Rasiyav (sweet rice) in the evening.

21 November 2025 – Pidiya Visarjan and conclusion of fast.

What is Pidiya Vrat?

Pidiya Vrat is a special religious fast observed in Bihar, UP and Jharkhand. In this, sisters keep fast for the long life, happiness and safety of their brothers.
In some places this fast is also known as Rudra Pidiya Vrat.

Recognition and history of Pidiya Vrat

According to folklore, once a sister observed a strict fast on Shukla Ekam of Aghaan month for the safety and long life of her brother. Seeing his true devotion, Lord Shiva was pleased and blessed him, ‘Whoever observes this fast on this day, no major trouble will touch his family and there will always be peace in the house.’ Since then this fast has become a symbol of brother-sister love.

Pidiya Vrat 2025 Puja Vidhi

20 November (fasting day)

  • Take bath in the morning and wear clean clothes.
  • Worship Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati.
  • Offer Belpatra, Dhatura, lamp and fruits and flowers.
  • Keep fast the whole day.
  • Eat Rasiyav (sweet rice) in the evening.
  • 21 November (end of fast)
  • Make small balls of flour or rice.
  • Immerse them in river, pond or well.
  • After this the fast is considered complete.
