How many names were taken in which state?
New Delhi 24th December 2025: The process of SIR undertaken by the Voter Election Commission in various states has been completed. The figures released amid protests from political parties show that the names of lakhs of people have been removed from the voting list across the country. In which Gujarat has come to the second position after Tamil Nadu.
According to the Election Commission data, till now maximum 97 lakh names have been removed from the list of Tamil Nadu. However, this process is still going on in Uttar Pradesh and its figures will be released on December 31. It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had earlier claimed that 4 crore voters were missing in UP, so the figures of UP can surpass even Tamil Nadu.
If we talk about Gujarat, the names of a total of 73 lakh voters have been reduced from the list. According to the data, 3.81 lakh double voters have been found in Gujarat, which is more than West Bengal (1.38 lakh). The main reasons behind decline in names in Gujarat are said to be death, migration and duplication.

Names of 22 lakh persons in Kerala, 42 lakh in Madhya Pradesh, 27 lakh in Chhattisgarh, 73 lakh in Gujarat, 58 lakh in West Bengal, 97 lakh in Tamil Nadu, 22 thousand in Andamar, 47 lakh in Bihar, 1.02 lakh in Goa and 84 thousand in Puducherry have been removed from the voter list.
In Gujarat, 18.07 lakh people have died, while 40.26 lakh people have migrated. Whereas names of 3.81 lakh were above two places. Similarly, in Tamil Nadu, 26.94 lakh people died, 66.44 lakh people migrated and 3.99 lakh people were displaced. In Bengal too, 24.16 lakh people died, 32.65 lakh people migrated and 1.38 lakh people were displaced. If we talk about Rajasthan, 8.75 lakh people died, 29.60 lakh people migrated, 3.44 lakh people’s names were spoken at two places.
According to the Election Commission, after this purification campaign, the final publication of the voter list will be done on February 21, 2026. Voters whose names have been registered will also be given time to verify their details and submit their objections.
